TECHNICAL issues saw a large-screen broadcast of the Queen’s funeral halted today - with many people leaving before it was fixed.
Hundreds gathered at Horatio’s bar on Brighton’s Palace Pier during the morning ahead of the funeral at 11am.
But shortly after the service began, the big screen cut out and a handful of disappointed spectators walked away.
Both picture and sound were intermittent before both returned from 11.25am for the remainder of the service – with live coverage of the day’s events shown at the bar until 7pm.
Anne Ackford, CEO of Brighton Pier Group, said: “We had a short break which was something to do with Sky, not our system.
“We tuned into another channel to resume service.”
But the techincal faults did not get in the way of the feeling of pride people felt by watching the service together.
At the closing of the funeral, the crowd at the pier stood and sang the National Anthem.
Many of those who turned out to watch the funeral at the pier stayed throughout the day, Anne said.
Troskie and Naomi Botha travelled from Kent with their children, Esther and Jojo, to watch at the pier.
It is Naomi's birthday today, but she said it was important to catch the Queen's funeral.
