ARGUS readers have expressed their grief and sadness as the nation paid a final farewell to Her Majesty the Queen.
Millions watched on television or flocked to London as a state funeral was held for Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey.
Paul Curram, who was watching the ceremony, said that a few tears were shed.
He said: “She’d be very moved by that send-off. I won’t see anything on that scale again in my lifetime.”
Others described the funeral as “emotional”, “overwhelming” and an “amazing spectacle” as the Queen’s coffin was led from Westminster Hall to the Abbey for the service earlier this morning.
Martin Down said that the pageantry of the affair left him feeling “proud to be British”.
The Royal Family grieved with the nation as the public said goodbye to the Queen and watched as the late monarch left London for the last time.
The King was left close to tears during the funeral, where the Archbishop of Canterbury described the Queen as having touched “a multitude of lives”.
Tens of thousands of mourners lined the ceremonial procession route from the Abbey to Wellington Arch, where the Queen’s coffin left for her Berkshire home of Windsor Castle for a committal service.
Around 2,000 people attended the Queen’s funeral, including members of royal families across Europe, politicians from all sides of the political spectrum and world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.
