With reference to the article concerning the delay in delivery of national bus passes for people aged 60 years and over and eligible disabled people (The Argus, April 2), I want to assure residents that the bus passes for Brighton and Hove City Council customers have been posted and should all be delivered by the end of this week.
I want to apologise for this delay but also reassure customers that they can continue to use their old style Countycard bus passes within Sussex up to the end of April.
Customers wishing to travel outside the county, who have not received a national pass, are asked to call in to the Concessionary Travel Office at Priory House, Bartholomew Square, Brighton, to request a temporary pass. This will enable them to travel free of charge outside the county but they must have both an existing Countycard and a temporary pass to show when boarding buses outside Sussex.
This guidance is on the council's website. It is important that customers are aware of this requirement as there will be no possibility of reimbursing customers for travel by any other means. For any further inquiries please contact the office on 01273 291924.
I would like to reiterate that the council fully supports and is committed to the provision of free national travel and we are confident that the current teething problems will be resolved soon.
- Ann Norman, lead councillor for finance and resources, chair, financial management sub-committee, Brighton and Hove City Council
