No one answered my query as to how mankind can make any difference to global warming as only 5% of CO2 in the atmosphere comes from human activity (Letters, March 20).

By coincidence the second part of my letter was confirmed last week on ABC Radio in Australia. Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist and senior fellow of Melbourne-based think-tank the Institute of Public Affairs, said: "There has been cooling in the earth's temperature if you take 1998 as your point of reference. If you take 2002 as your point of reference, then temperatures have plateaued."

This is certainly not what you would expect if carbon dioxide is driving up temperature because carbon dioxide levels have been increasing but temperatures have been coming down during the past ten years.

The head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has actually acknowledged this by saying: "It is unexpected and should be being discussed because it's very significant."

This shows that the global warming theory is flawed. Climate change is natural.

Governments should concentrate on reducing its effects rather than using it as an excuse for stealth taxes, more restrictions and to hold back developing nations.
