Georgina Ward sums up modern Christianity when she complains that others do not share her love of gore and misery and instructs them to "look the other way" (Letters, March 29).

How well she represents the church's attitude. With regard to war, famine, corruption, fascism and torture, "just look the other way" could be the motto for Christians.

I would disagree, however, with her assertion that these are "increasingly intolerant times". Quite the reverse.

These days we can delight with relative freedom in many cultural celebrations of the seasons.

Christians are not "getting it in the neck". Non-Christians are simply defending themselves from gruesome, public images which is their right as citizens of this country.
