Reality TV pop stars have it tough. We know they can sing, but do they have the charisma, longevity and, most importantly, the songs to make a career of it?
The night's support act, Jamie Scott, sadly has none of these qualities, and the crowd is in need of a lift by the time Kelly Clarkson hits the stage.
She's energetic, motivated and sounding fantastic, if easily distracted between songs by the boisterous crowd.
Hits such as Behind These Hazel Eyes still sound fresh and her band are rocky and versatile.
An acoustic section allows Clarkson to really show off her vocal talents, before the band returns for a thunderous Miss Independent - far heavier than the record version.
As the final stomping bars of Since U Been Gone ring out, it's clear that despite her relatively short career, Clarkson has cracked it - she's got the charisma and potential for longevity with songs to spare.
