Del Amitri emerged during the 1980s with catchy tunes which disguised biting lyrics about life's tribulations. By 2002 they'd run their course, but former frontman Justin Currie is still on the road, and played to a packed Komedia on Friday night.

Strumming an acoustic guitar and accompanied only by a keyboard player, Currie strolled through some of his newer material, as well as plenty of old Del Amitri favourites such as Be My Downfall, Last To Know and Nothing Ever Happens.

The latter proved so familiar that the opening bars were enough to draw enthusiastic applause.

Justin Currie has said Del Amitri were more loathed than loved - not on this evidence. They certainly had a big following in America, where Currie is about to showcase his latest album, What Is Love For?

This was the last of six warm-up shows in the UK. Next stop: Nashville music city, USA.
