During the recent storms we were all warned not to go near the sea because of the dangers of being swept away. This photo of the waves breaking over Brighton Marina certainly confirms that it would have been foolhardy to have been on the breakwater.
It is interesting to think about what will be there in a few years time. At the point where the wave is hitting the breakwater there will be a piazza outside the entrance to a 40-storey tower. The tower itself will be much further out, positioned just behind the breakwater but exposed to the breaking waves.
Of course when the marina development was presented for planning all the models and images included calm seas. But with global warming, these storms are likely to occur more often. The residents in the tower block may well have an interesting time in the future.
