I was delighted to read Adam Trimingham's article about the variety and context of the funerals offered by Brighton and Hove City Council (The Argus, March 26).

People who use our crematorium and cemeteries give us positive feedback about the care they receive from our staff.

People also praise the surroundings which are lovingly tended by council staff.

These are services that are highly valued yet not high profile.

We have uniquely received five chartermarks, which is the government standard for quality customer service, in a row and this has attracted visits from other authorities across Britain to see how this has been achieved.

We are also particularly proud that Steve Horlock, our head of bereavement services, became an MBE in the New Year Honours.

We were also pleased that the Duchess of Gloucester visited just over a year ago and opened our sensory garden in Woodvale Crematorium which was developed after feedback from customers.

Both of these stories were also covered by The Argus, so thank you.
