A main sewer in West Way, Lancing, part of the Hasler estate off the Brighton Road, collapsed last Sunday and sewage has been flowing along the streets since then.
Engineers have had to work through every night since then but are unable to make a satisfactory repair due to the limited time they can work between sea tides.
Most of the waste is being pumped into tankers 24 hours a day but when the tankers are not there the sewage flows into the street and it is awash with it.
It feels like we are going back to the dark ages when it was customary to find sewage flowing down the gutter.
