Christians in Bevendean who staged an open air re-enactment of the crucifixion of Jesus were told by Father John Wall of St Andrew's Church: "It's important that all the churches in the area get together for this each year" (The Argus, March 22).
In fact only three churches were represented at this symbolic exhibition of blood and gore which was witnessed by children.
Easter is one of many spring festivals. The name derives from a spring goddess, reminding us of its pagan origins.
It is part of a wider culture celebrating fertility and life not remembrance of a violent death.
The festival would be more enjoyable if we were spared Christian images of crosses and crowns of thorns.
