There has been much discussion recently regarding proposals to ban dogs from all Brighton and Hove beaches all year round.
Although I feel it would be unfair to a lot of dog owners, something does need to be done.
On Good Friday afternoon my own dog was playing on the beach near Hove Lagoon, when a lady came along with two large female Staffordshire terriers. The two terriers were let off the lead and the lady watched while her dogs played with mine.
Both of her dogs fouled on the beach and each time she walked over to the pile of mess and simply drew pebbles over it with her foot.
She did this in full view of several people on the beach.
This sort of behaviour is despicable and should not be tolerated.
There are plenty of bins along the promenade but some dog owners will not clean up after their dogs.
It is not fair to other users of the beach.
Other dog owners like me feel embarrassed by the actions of irresponsible dog owners.
There are many CCTV cameras dotted along the seafront and they should be used to stop dog owners committing what is antisocial behaviour and a criminal act.
I feel it is time for the council to get tough and use whatever powers they have to prosecute irresponsible owners and hit them where it hurts - in their pockets.
