In reply to Geoff Simpson's comments about wheel clamping (Letters, March 25), anyone with internet access can look up the Acts of Parliament I quoted (Letters, March 17).
Anyone who has been wheel clamped also needs to look up section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
They will then discover that wheel clamping is covered by a specific criminal offence which makes it illegal to use any threats, abuse or intimidation to force payment of a debt.
In answer to the questions as to why local councils are not doing anything to prevent this illegal practice, it is because wheel clamping is highly lucrative.
The organisations which should be protecting the public from this illegal practice are making a great deal of money from it.
The law already provides a remedy for landowners to protect themselves from illegal parking which is to issue a summons in the county court for trespass.
