This is the first gig without hard drugs inside me for a long time," announced singer Peter Perrett to cheers from a nostalgic crowd.

After 25 years in the narcotic wilderness it's a cause for celebration that this resilient legend of the Punk scene is still with us at all.

Even more so when, with the first few lines of opener Miles From Nowhere, it was clear his voice hasn't lost any of its petulant and disaffected twang.

Songs like Me and My Shadow were punk-pop at its best, snarling yet melodic, and it was clear why bands from Blur to The Libertines have cited them as a major influence.

Guitarist John Perry looked like he loved every minute, stretching every taut, new wave guitar solo to the limit.

Their finest song, Another Girl, Another Planet, the song used in a Vodafone advertisement which was the catalyst for their reformation, got the biggest cheer of the night. And when Perrett drawled the lyric: "I always flirt with death, I'll get killed but I don't care," the audience celebrated a remarkable survival story.
