Fire crews discovered a man with foot injuries when they responded to a call in Kemptown.
Firefighters arrived at the address in Eastern Terrace Mews at about 00.15 on Tuesday to find a small fire in the kitchen. It was quickly extinguished. A man was found nearby with cuts to his feet from treading on broken glass.
He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment. Police have said they will question the man about the fire after he is discharged.
