A fringe festival show will go ahead after a college stepped in to save the day.

Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College (BHASVIC) will play host to a multi-media show after offering the promoters a last-minute reprieve.

The team behind 'Galactic Symphonies' and 'The Magic Hand' had hoped to pull of a coup by staging the shows at the Engineerium, in Hove.

The grand old Victorian pumping station is being transformed into a museum and venue after it was closed in 2006.

The creators of 'Galactic Symphonies' - a new collaboration between poet Stephen John Kalinch, guitarist Richard Durrant and light artist Malcolm Buchanan-Dick - had hoped to stage the first show there during the Fringe Festival, in May.

Yet time ran out on the plans when it was revealed the building would not receive the necessary licences in time.

Promoter Paul Adsett got in touch with his old school in Dyke Road which agreed to host the show.

Mr Adsett said: "We were hoping we could, in effect, preview the Engineerium and offer the public a chance to see venue before its official relaunch.

"This change was unavoidable, but almost proved disastrous to the project.

"Just two days before launch of fringe brochure we found a solution - thanks to my old grammar school."

The school's hall, with its grand panels depicting Sussex history, will now play host to the performance and its companion piece The Magic Hand', between May 24 and 26.
