A man who was conned out of £14,000 by a cowboy roofer is still living in his house - even though experts say it is dangerous.

Terry Lawrence, 58, who has learning difficulties, handed over the cash after he was told the roof of his home was leaking and sagging.

The Argus told earlier this month how the roofer, who gave his name as Geoff, has since failed to answer Mr Lawrence's telephone calls.

Mr Lawrence has been left with just £70 in his bank account and is still living in the house, despite other builders declaring it dangerous.

Mr Lawrence, of Redvers Road, Brighton, said: "I'm not going to leave my house. Some people say it is dangerous but I can't afford to pay for it to be fixed now."

Sussex Police and Trading Standards officers have both visited Mr Lawrence and investigations are continuing.
