Family and friends will gather at a cemetery to mark the birthday of a teenager who died.

Max Weston, who died after a night out with friends in December, would have received driving lessons for his 17th birthday today.

The teenager, of Osborne Road in Brighton, died of head injuries in Hurstwood Park Hospital in Haywards Heath on December 6.

Five days earlier he had been on a night out drinking with two friends when he was confronted by police.

He panicked and ran off and moments later was found seriously injured at the foot of a wall off Ditchling Road in Brighton.

Police said he had done nothing wrong and friends expressed the view he fled because he did not want his parents to find out he had been drinking.

Max's mother Kerry Tester said: "Family and friends are going up to cemetery in the afternoon.

"It's going to be a sad day because we are missing him desperately. It will be absolutely terrible because it is his first birthday since his death."
