On Friday my husband and I set off by car to visit friends in Bournemouth.

Ten minutes from home the car got a flat tyre - not a good omen for two septuagenarians starting a long journey.

The fact we discovered this so early was due solely to a keen-eyed motorcyclist who tapped on our window at a set of lights and pointed it out to us.

Fortunately we were in a convenient place to pull in and we managed to obtain the speedy services of a breakdown company and were able to complete our journey before dark.

I would like to thank the observant young man for his quick reaction in letting us know. It could have been disastrous had we not been aware of the problem until we were somewhere less convenient than at the junction of Church Road and Grand Avenue, Hove.
