COUNCILS are set to proclaim King Charles III as the new sovereign after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The King will be proclaimed King in events across the county on Sunday, September 11, after he was confirmed as King nationally at the Accession Council on Saturday, September 10, which was televised for the first time.
The proclamations come shortly after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, with the crown passing immediately to the former Prince of Wales.
The public can get involved in the proclamations by witnessing the historic events at various councils across the region, many of which are open for those wanting to watch.
Brighton and Hove City Council
The city council will be marking the proclamation at an event at the Royal Pavilion, where mourners have been leaving flowers and signing a book of condolence for the Queen
The event will begin at 3pm and will involve Councillor Lizzie Deane, Mayor of Brighton, reading the proclamation from the north balcony of the Pavilion.
East Sussex County Council
Residents will be able to watch the proclamation in Lewes, where Jane King, the High Sheriff of East Sussex, will be leading proceedings.
The event will be held at County Hall in St. Anne’s Crescent in Lewes from 1pm, with proclamations being read from 1.30pm onwards.
A county proclamation of the new sovereign will be made at 1pm outside the main reception of County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes on Sunday 11 September.

West Sussex County Council
The High Sheriff of West Sussex, James Whitmore, will read the council’s proclamation on the steps of County Hall in Chichester at 1pm.
Mayors from local borough councils will also be in attendance, as well as the Lord Lieutenant for West Sussex, Lady Emma Barnard.
Mid Sussex District Council
The local proclamation for the district council will take place at 2pm at the Oakland Road council offices in Haywards Heath.
The ceremony will be headed by Cllr Margaret Belsey, chairwoman of Mid Sussex District Council, and is open to the public.

Hastings Borough Council
The Mayor of Hastings, Cllr James Bacon, will be leading the Hastings address, which will take place at 3pm in Queens Square in Hastings.
Other dignitaries invited include Sara Stonor DL, the Vice Lieutenant of East Sussex, as well as Sall-Ann Hart, MP for Hastings.
Crawley Town Council
The town council proclamation will be read by Councillor Jilly Hart, Mayor of Crawley, with the public and local businesses all invited.
The event will take place at 2pm in front of the Town Hall in The Boulevard in Crawley.
