My boyfriend left me last year and that made me a bit depressed. So I've been on Prozac for 12 months. But now I read in the paper that scientists have just found these anti-depressants are no good and cause unpleasant effects. Is this right?

As I've said in this column before, some of these powerful drugs can cause lots of side-effects.

They are not the "happiness pills" many people, including some doctors, imagine. The new research shows that unless you have severe depression, it is probably pointless taking the highly-popular drugs called Prozac, Seroxat and Efexor. Dummy pills give just as good results. As you're still feeling low about being dumped by your partner, I think you should now get some counselling. Good luck.
