If you were picking the perfect venue for dancing, a cinema would perhaps not feature highly on the list.

The Go! Team vocalist Ninja told the crowd playing at the Duke of York's cinema in Brighton was "weird", and as the set began it was hard to disagree.

Yet despite the limitations on dancing for those unable to sit still when faced with such an overwhelming torrent of sound, the gig was an undeniable triumph.

The fundraising show was organised to help repair the 97-year-old roof of the Preston Circus cinema.

Indeed, the setting was utilised as the band played in front of the big screen to a special visual mash-up put together by artist Bob Jaroc.

By the second song, the crowd were on their feet and dancing in the aisles, with not an usher in sight to put a stop to the fun.

The show was a break from the band's promo tour in support of their second album Proof Of Youth, the eagerly-anticipated follow-up to 2005's Mercury Music Prize-nominated Thunder, Lightning, Strike. The band's unique sound is produced by an intelligent mix of live instrumentals and samples taken from hip-hop to circus music.

An undeniable highlight was the climactic Ladyflash - the perfect example of the The Go! Team's ability to go beyond simple dance music.
