South Downs Health NHS Trust may well need to find savings of £4 million but cutting 20 district nursing posts is not the way the savings should be made (The Argus, March 13).

The savings which have to be made to meet strict cost-cutting Government targets have concerned many community leaders who quite rightly say the district nurses play a vital role in the community providing an essential service.

Sadly, as managers are halfway through an extensive review of the services these posts may not be the last to be cut.

Although money has to be saved I do not think that cutting the district nursing posts is the right area where cuts should be made.

As we are living longer, many elderly people in the community rely on the district nurse and the service and care he or she provides to be able to continue to live in their own home in many cases.

Where I wonder will these cuts end?
