I read with great interest in The Argus under the headline "We've made the grade" (March 12).

It was wonderful to see two pages of happy, smiling children from two Brighton schools (and a Newhaven school).

I wish to refer to Whitehawk Primary School in particular, and the headteacher Peter Glue, his teachers, classroom assistants, school governors and all the other people who take time to help out at the school.

The school has had its "ups and downs" over the past few years, but like a big ship it takes time to turn it around.

It appears that this is now being achieved. This has to be good news for all the pupils at the school and everyone has to be applauded.

Sadly, Whitehawk is one of those places that seems to have more than its fair share of setbacks. So it is a "pat on the back" for The Argus for reporting something close to being spectacular occurring in Whitehawk.

When a school is in the position that Whitehawk Primary School was, it is difficult to achieve the higher grade.

However, in this case they rolled up their sleeves and got down to work even harder than they had been doing and the result is clear for everyone to see.

I would urge the parents, relatives and friends to now get behind the school and push it further up the ladder.

This is a great opportunity for Whitehawk as a whole, including the pupils, to rally round and celebrate such a wonderful school.
