Hundreds of dead starfish have been washed up onto Brighton beach, according to reports.
Environment Agency officials are wondering what could have killed the starfish.
The agency has not had any reports of starfish appearing on Brighton beach but people have contacted The Argus to describe the fish on the pebbles.
A spokeswoman said she did not believe it was linked to the recent storms because thousands appeared on the Kent coastline last week.
In Kent the agency were investigating if the starfish were discarded by fishermen after the mussel beds were dredged.
