A SUSSEX MP has been given a job in the government as new Prime Minister Liz Truss appoints a new leadership team.
Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden, will serve as a minister in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as part of a sea of appointments by Prime Minister Truss after taking office earlier this week.
Ms Ghani was among many Conservative MPs to back Liz Truss for the leadership, giving a speech at a hustings in Eastbourne to pledge her support to the former foreign secretary.
Her appointment takes the number of Sussex MPs in the government to three, alongside health ministers Maria Caulfield, MP for Lewes, and Gillian Keegan, MP for Chichester.
However, the pair both supported Rishi Sunak’s bid to become Conservative Party leader.
As part of her Cabinet reshuffle, Liz Truss has appointed long-term ally Kwasi Kwarteng to the Treasury, with supporter James Cleverly becoming Foreign Secretary.
The Prime Minister has culled some of her former rival’s prominent backers from the government, including Dominic Raab, Grant Shapps and Steve Barclay.
