There will be more than 200 Sport Relief runs around the UK, and Brighton and Hove is hosting one of 23 flagship miles.

The event began in 2002, raising an extraordinary £14 million in its first year, and close to half a million people took part across the UK last year. Participants have the option of running one, three or six miles to raise money for Comic Relief.

Sally Gunnell, Dragons' Den star Theo Paphitis and Sid the Shark and Gully, the mascots of Sussex County Cricket Club and Brighton and Hove Albion, will be taking part.

There will be a range of activities on offer on the seafront, including tennis, cricket, fencing and skateboarding, as well as basketball demonstrations and displays from other local sporting clubs.

All money raised will go towards Comic Relief's work helping vulnerable people in the UK and the world's poorest nations. The run will be preceded by a night of Sport Relief programmes on BBC One tonight.

A boxing contest between GMTV Presenter Ben Shephard and singer Lemar will be broadcast live. Sir Alan Sugar will present Sport Relief Does The Apprentice, Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly will host a new edition of Strictly Come Dancing and Jimmy Carr will oversee a Question Of Sport Relief.

James Cracknell and David Walliams have already completed their Sport Relief swim across the Straits of Gibraltar. The swim was the final leg of a crossContinent challenge which saw James row the Channel and cycle through France and Spain in ten days, setting a world record in the process.
