After ten years of parties in fields, front rooms and nightclubs in and around Brighton, Stompa Phunk have decided it's time to take a well-earned rest.

For the foreseeable future at least, they'll be stopping their regular night at Audio and instead will be planning a handful of one-off events in "some new and possibly rather unusual environments".

Their four-year Audio residency will end in style, with headliners Deepgroove and Orbital legend Phil Hartnoll joined by Stompa Phunk's original DJ and co- founder, David Parr, and the crew's leading lady, Tula.

After humble beginnings at free parties and festivals around Brighton, SP began in earnest at the Pressure Point back in 1997. The night quickly blossomed into a beacon for quality dance music and they moved on to the newly-opened Funky Buddha Lounge two years later.

Perhaps Stompa Phunk's greatest achievement has been consistently attracting star names who were used to playing venues three or four times the size.

These have included Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Derrick Carter, Darren Emerson, Metro Area, Rolando, Ivan Smagghe, James Holden, Ewan Pearson, Simian Mobile Disco, Tiefschwarz, Green Velvet and Nathan Fake.

"It's a shame to see the end of our parties at Audio, especially as we were instrumental in putting the venue on the map. Thanks to everyone who supported over the years. It's been a laugh," says promotions manager Andrew Van Ginneken.

"What an amazing time. So many great parties. We were instrumental in setting the trend for electro becoming the biggest sound in dance music and we had a blast doing it," adds David Parr.

"I mean, you know you're onto something good when your two best friends, Serge Santiago and Radioslave, become headline international stars. Right time, right sound, right attitude.

"It has been unbelievable since we announced the break. People all over the world are asking what we're doing next. All I've said is we are going back to our roots - free parties and the odd massive show."
