Teen whizz Andrea Chlebikova is Pi eyed with the magic of pure maths.
For the 14-year-old is about to sit an AS-Level exam in the subject this summer having already earned an A* in her GCSE more than two years early.
Yesterday (Thursday, March 13) the prodigy, of Hollingbury, Brighton, took part in the final stages of the Intermediate UK Maths Challenge for 13 to 16-year-olds.
She said: "I enjoy maths. Some people like sports because they are good at it, if they run a race and win they are satisfied. For me, it's just the same with maths. When you solve a problem its just an amazing feeling."
Andrea's parents, Drs Miroslav Chlebik and Janka Chlebikova, are academics who have published a number of books on maths.
The youngster spends much of her free time working through mathematical problems on websites and trains her mind using sudokus and other puzzles as well.
At Dorothy Stringer School, in Loder Road, Brighton, where she is a pupil, teachers have made special arrangements for her to develop her abilities.
Head of maths Andrea Cumming said: "In her maths lessons we let her get on with her own work at the back of the class because she is so far ahead of what the others are doing.
"She's already fluent in German as well, so when she has German classes on her timetable she is allowed to work on her maths."
Andrea speaks four languages. Her family is from Slovakia and later moved to Germany before coming to England. She learnt all three languages and speaks French as well.
Mrs Cumming said: "To be honest, her maths is probably as good as mine. To teach her I'm having to do maths I haven't done in years. I'm guiding her as much as teaching her. I see her once a week to set her work and mark what she has done and she gets on with most of it on her own."
When she was living in Germany, Andrea won first place in the country's equivalent of the UK Maths Challenge, beating thousands of the brightest children.
Earlier this year she reached the Olympiad national final of the Senior UK Maths Challenge for under 18s and finished one mark short of the top 100. She beat competition from more than 70,000 older rivals at more than 1,900 schools.
A spokeswoman from organisers UK Mathematics Trust said it had been a significant achievement for someone her age.
Andrea said she wanted to have a career in mathematics research and hoped to get into the UK Maths team.
She was one of eight pupils from Dorothy Stringer who made it through the first round of the intermediate competition but the only one to reach the Olympiad final.
Dorothy Stringer headteacher Trevor Allen said: "She's a remarkably gifted girl."
