A 14-year-old boy has been charged with stabbing a 16-year-old at a house in Crawley, leaving him critically injured, police said.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear before magistrates, charged with wounding with intent.
Luke Kennedy was stabbed once in the upper back area at a friend's house in Fitchet Close on Monday evening.
The friend's mother administered first aid before Luke was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London.
His condition was initially critical but he has since improved and is now said to be in a critical but stable condition.
Armed police contained a property in Ifield Drive, Ifield, before going to Chiltern Close, West Green, where they arrested the 14-year-old boy.
He remains in custody and will appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court, a Sussex Police spokeswoman said.
