A 22-year-old pedestrian died after she was struck by a heavy goods vehicle.
Police and an ambulance were called to Woolborough Lane, Manor Royal, Crawley, at 8.46pm, but the woman, who lived locally, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the lorry, a 51-year-old man from the Horsham area, was uninjured. The road was closed for four and a half hours while police conducted their investigation.
The force is appealing for witnesses to contact Sergeant Andy Judson at Haywards Heath road policing unit on 0845 6070999, quoting Operation Griston.
