Not that many people will get to outer space. But in the meantime, there's always a System 7 gig.

Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy (both one-time members of 1970s hippy band Gong) began with dreamy psychedelic chords overlaid by Hillage's hypnotic guitar and by the time the thumping beats kicked in, we were already in orbit.

The pair's latest album, Phoenix, draws inspiration from Japanese manga culture and includes collaborations with Jam El Mar, Daevid Allen and Eat Static, with whom they shared the bill.

Eat Static are now down to one member - Merv Pepler - after Joie Hinton left having "been to one party too many". But Pepler certainly made up for it by playing with twice as much energy.

The crowd was a mixed bag of ages, the music transcending generations and boundaries, which we have decided is a good thing. System 7 may be two ageing hippies, but are they still rocking? You bet.
