Thousands of people were left with a limited television service after storms knocked out a transmitter.

A power failure at the Newhaven mast has left people in Lewes, Newhaven, Saltdean and Seaford without BBC and ITV television channels since yesterday morning.

Channel 4 is believed to have a back-up generator and can still be viewed.

A spokesman for the BBC said EDF energy was working hard to restore power as soon as possible.

The storms have also left around 2,400 homes without power in Sussex and Kent.
