The Other Boleyn Girl' is a powerful story of manipulation and betrayal. The court of Henry the Eighth was a seductive yet dangerous place where fortunes were quickly built and easily destroyed.
The two sisters Anne and Mary (Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson) really brought the film to life emotionally. Both seemed vulnerable in different ways, one to love and the other to ambition. David Morissey was particularly memorable as the icily reptilian Duke of Norfolk, puppet master to both girls.
Sumptuous costumes added authentic period detail, but it is the all too human face of history that I took away from this film.
