Brighton Festival has recorded strong sales since tickets went on sale to the public just over a week ago.

The box office has so far taken £340,000 from festival goers, slightly more than last year's total for the same period.

So far the sold out shows include talks by Clive Stafford Smith, Nick Sharratt, Gore Vidal, Sir David King, Jarvis Cocker, Mark E Smith, Andrew O'Hagan and Matt Frei; performances of children's theatre show Brilliant, Shakespeare a la carte and Johnny's Midnight Goggles; the early evening performance of Celebrating Linda Smith; Cath Johnson's two writing workshops for young people and lunchtime concerts by Mark Padmore and Simon Lepper, Elizabeth Watts and Roger Vignoles, and pianist Daniel de Borah.

Several dates are now sold out for the Bootmakers Daughter and An Infinite Line.

Other tickets which are selling fast include workshops for children with Anthony Browne, Hugh Lupton and Polly Dunbar; the Happy Ever After books quiz; talks by Tom Paulin, John Gray, Mike Leigh, Susan Greenfield, Alan Johnston and Augusten Burroughs; lunchtime concerts by sitar virtuoso Kartik Seshadri and the the Seckou Keita Quartet; and the Tokyo String Quartet's performace at Glyndebourne.
