The cliff-top visitor attraction Newhaven Fort was closed and refuse collections were suspended in Lewes district following the closure of Beddingham waste disposal site due to the high winds.
Sandbags were being made available at council buildings in Newhaven, Seaford, Lewes, Barcombe, Ringmer and Chailey, a Lewes District Council spokeswoman said.
