I agree with Richard Underwood when he speaks up in favour of communal black bins (Letters, February 22). The south side of our street has many multi-occupancy buildings and this has led to black bags and other rubbish being dumped outside houses throughout the week. Seagulls often rip open the bin bags and rubbish is strewn across the pavement.
While I accept the communal bins do not blend in with Victorian facades, they could be placed under the trees to avoid cars being covered in bird droppings and parking bays could be extended by reducing double yellow lines.
