STREETS in Eastbourne are to benefit from funding aimed at preventing crime and providing new community support.
The projects is aimed at youth initiatives and new CCTV cameras as well as helping tackle violence against women and girls.
Funding comes from an Eastbourne Borough Council bid to the Home Office through the Safer Streets Fund.
Councillor Rebecca Whippy, lead member for Disabilities and Community Safety, said: “There is much to be pleased about in this funding programme, but I am particularly encouraged by the focus on projects for our young people in Eastbourne.
“The impact of covid and lockdowns has had major impact on mental health and on the activities so many younger residents used to enjoy.
“This money is fantastic news for Eastbourne and a really positive development for engagement activities in the town.”
Around £250,000 has been allocated to improve the area across a number of initiatives.
