ADUR and Worthing Councils has warned residents they may face a long wait if they call.
A notice on the council website says the customer services team is ‘experiencing a high volume of calls’ today (30 August).
It warns that residents may have to wait ‘a while’ to speak to somebody.
The notice was posted on the website just after midday and remained there more than two hours later.
In it, the councils have apologised for any inconvenience caused and have asked for residents to ‘bear with us’.
It comes just days after a rise in the energy price cap, which could see the average household paying £3,549 a year to power and heat their homes from October 1.
Last month, Worthing Borough Council declared a cost of living emergency as it reported a rise in the number of low-income households ‘not coping’.
The council has since shared advice on how to cope with the cost of living on its website: https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/cost-of-living-support/
