EMERGENCY services have been called to a fire under Brighton Palace Pier.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue (ESFR) were called to the beach at 7.50pm yesterday following reports made by members of the public.
The blaze was located beneath the pier and passers-by stated that it was 8-10 ft tall.
A spokesman for ESFR said: “At 7.50pm, we were called to attend Brighton beach (beneath the Palace Pier) following reports of a fire in the open.
“Firefighters from Preston Circus attended. A small fire was out on arrival.
“Crews used a Thermal Imaging Camera to ensure that there were no flare ups and we left the scene at 8.06pm.”
