FILMING for a hit crime drama has returned to Brighton to bring author Peter James’s best-selling books to life.
The third series of ITV’s Grace has begun filming today in Rottingdean, with scenes being shot at St Margaret’s Church, Nevill Road and on Beacon Hill.
Filming at the church is expected to last until 11pm, with a crew of around 40 people working to keep disruption to residents to a minimum.
A location manager for the production said that residents who live close by to filming locations and have been “made to feel very welcome to the area”.
She said: “Our hope is to return to Rottingdean to film future episodes, but obviously we want to ensure first and foremost we are considering the local residents and businesses.”
The upcoming season of the drama is based on three books by the Brighton author; Dead Like You, Dead Man’s Grip and Not Yet Dead.
The Argus will continue to feature in the ITV show, as it has in previous seasons.
Grace has been filmed at many landmarks across Brighton and Hove, with some scenes also taking place at locations in other parts of Sussex.
Earlier this year, guests arriving at The Grand hotel got an unexpected surprise when Peter James worked as a concierge as part of research for a character.
Peter, in full uniform, carried the luggage of guests and helped them through the famous rotating doorway.
He said: “I want a character that disappears, and a concierge here reckons that the guy has been staying here, incognito, for several months on and off.
“So, I wanted to know how much they would see - they don’t miss much
“I’ve been through all the tasks: recommending places, lugging bags, parking cars - well, I’ve been opening the garage doors, I don’t think I’m insured for the driving.”
The third series of Grace, starring Life on Mars actor John Simm in the titular role as DSI Roy Grace, is expected to hit screens sometime next year.
