POLICE have issued a warning amid a rise in the use of laughing gas.
Brighton and Hove Police are urging the public to “just say no” to nitrous oxide.
Inhaling nitrous oxide, otherwise known as NOS or laughing gas, can result in dizziness and loss of balance leading to falls, hallucinations and headaches.
Lung and throat damage and vitamin B12 deficiency are also common in chronic users, which often lead to memory issues and negative mood.
“If all of that doesn't put you off, it can also cause a lack of oxygen to the brain, which could result in you falling unconscious and possibly dying,” a police spokesman said. “Why would you take that risk?
“Stay safe when you are out this weekend, think twice and don't be tempted to make a choice which could potentially at best ruin your night, but at worst, ruin your life.”
Last month, furious residents demanded action after tonnes of rubbish including empty nitrous oxide canisters, swept into the sea following the heatwave.
Angry residents collected “mountains” of litter on Brighton beach, which included the paraphernalia of the illegal party drug, empty bottles of beer, straws and barbecues.
