Glynde railway bridge to be closed for five weeks for repairs

Highways teams will be working on waterproofing and fixing potholes on Glynde Bridge in Glynde, near Ringmer.

There will also be work to repoint the brick walls and paint the steel railings.

It will be closed from Monday, September 12.

Work will last until Monday, October 17.

A spokesman for East Sussex Highways said: “We appreciate that this road closure will cause some disruption to motorists, but it is essential to keep the public and workers safe while repairs are carried out.

“Investigations have shown that water has been leaking through the bridge, which can damage the structure and contribute to potholes forming on the road surface.

“Repairing the waterproof membrane and resurfacing will protect the bridge and result in a smoother drive for motorists using this section of road.”

People will still be able to walk across the bridge while the work is carried out.

Traffic will be diverted via the A27, A26, Ringmer Road and New Road.

Part of Lacys Hill, which goes through the village and over the bridge, will be closed.
