Brighton Bier will be throwing open the doors to its brewery from Friday, August 26, to Sunday, August 28. Nick Mosley reveals what’s on offer for beer aficionados and food lovers alike.
Brighton Bier has now been trading for over a decade, growing from a small brewing shed tucked away in Marine Gardens in Kemp Town to an impressive unit at the Bell Tower Estate near Brighton Marina.
Partners Stephen Whitehurst and Gary Sillence have made a splash on the city’s craft beer scene and the wider region with an impressive range of session and experimental brews, numerous industry awards, two of their own pubs and a seafront retail unit.
The brewery hosts regular open days where visitors can experience the on-site taproom and explore the range of drinks.
On Saturday, August 27, in conjunction with Bite Sussex, Brighton Bier present a Yard Takeover event at the brewery from 1pm with guests Brighton Gin rustling up the spirits and the queen of soul food Momma Cherri on the stoves serving up her renowned Caribbean street food dishes.
Chef Momma Cherri found fame with her Big House venue and her dramatic head-butting with Garden Ramsey on his Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares TV series.
Following the closure of the Little East Street restaurant, she has gone on to share her culinary skills in the social sector and also through her Facebook page and various pop-up dining events across the country.
“I’m so excited to be closing out my summer pop-up tour at the Brighton Bier brewery,” said Momma Cherri.
“Come hungry, as I will be serving up a selection of my soul food classics including light bites and full meals, along with vegan options.
“Trust me when I say, this event is not to be missed.”
Alongside the food and drink, there’ll be music, retro video games and vintage bar games to while away the afternoon.
Friendly dogs on leads and children accompanied by their parents are welcome until 7pm. There is no entrance fee so everyone can enjoy the fun and friendly vibes.
Over the August bank holiday period, Bite Sussex is hosting various other one-off events including an Under The Sea immersive dining experience at Brighton’s Sealife aquarium on Wednesday, August 24, with a menu led by chef Caspian Armani of Isaac At, sponsored by Brighton and Newhaven Fish Sales and supported by around 15 local food and drink producers with all profits donated to the Sealife Trust.
A last few tickets are also still available for a fundraiser event at the Brighton Toy and Model Museum in Trafalgar Street.
Guests will enjoy exclusive evening access to explore the museum’s collection while enjoying themed cocktails presented by Madame Jennifer Distillery, Ramsbury Distillery and Ditchling Spirits with Sussex aperitivo-style cheese and charcuterie from Curds and Whey.
