A CARE home was evacuated as firefighters tackled a blaze in a nearby field.
Five fire engines and an off-road vehicle from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to Yapton Lane in the village of Walberton, near Bognor, after the fire erupted.
Residents from the Walberton Place Care Home were evacuated as a precaution as fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze.
Aerial photos from the scene show the land charred from the fire.
A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue confirmed that the care home’s residents have now safely returned to the property.
She said: “The fire has been brought under control, but firefighters remain on scene damping down, ensuring there are no further hot spots.
“Firefighters will remain on scene into the evening.
“The Met Office’s heatwave warning remains in place over the coming days, and the risk of wildfires will remain extremely high.
“We would urge all residents to take extra care.”
