A SWIMMER had to be pulled from the sea by a rescue helicopter after injuring their back.
The Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team were called following reports of a person in difficulty off West Beach on Sunday afternoon.
The swimmer had injured their back and later said they had a loss of feeling in one leg and pins and needles in the other.
They said they were in severe pain, said a Selsey Coastguard spokeswoman.
Selsey inshore lifeboat, Hayling Coastguard Rescue Team, South East Coast Ambulance Service and coastguard helicopter were all called to help with the rescue, which happened shortly after 5.30pm.
Once paramedics and the ambulance service had assessed the swimmer and administered pain relief, they were transferred to a stretcher.
“All assets then worked together to slowly move the casualty up the beach and into the ambulance where they were then taken to hospital,” the spokeswoman said.
“We would like to thank Seal Bay Resort and their security team for their assistance with a cordon of the area during the incident and while the helicopter was on scene.
“We wish the casualty well and hope they have a speedy recovery.”
Earlier that day, two children were reported missing on West Wittering Beach.
Both were found safe and reunited with their family.
