A NEW service allowing older people to find childcare work has come to the city.
GrandNanny "makes childcare simpler for parents” by giving them the opportunity to connect with nearby people over 50 who are looking for work in the sector.
The company, founded in 2020, aims to provide families with a local, reliable and fully DBS checked child-carer.
Part of its aim is to combat social isolation by providing people with a family to work with and be close to.

“Our work to date has shown that we can wrap the scientific benefits of intergenerational programmes into a practical part-time childcare service.
“We’re looking forward to supporting people with years of personal or professional childcare experience and local families in the Brighton area.”
Paul Chi, 64, who works as a carer through GrandNanny, said: “Older people with lots left to give can become isolated, under stimulated, and underappreciated. And yet families need help, and GrandNanny gives me hope of once again being able to support and encourage children in a family setting."
The company aims to create employment, community connections and rewarding jobs while making childcare simpler for parents.
It works by organising interviews with the family through the GrandNanny website.
There will then be an enhanced DBS check, child safeguarding and first aid training.
GrandNanny works to support both the family and carer by providing template contracts for their work. But the family is the employer of the carer and agrees elements such as holiday time, notice periods and more.
The service states that carers will get paid at least £11.50 an hour.
