AN ACTIVIST who inspired Channel 4’s TV series It’s A Sin will be joining people celebrating Pride this weekend.
A patron of Brighton-based charity The Sussex Beacon, Jill Nalder will be taking part in the community parade on the charity’s Pride bus, which will focus on her involvement with the charity over 30 years.
Her appearance comes after the launch of her new memoir, Love From The Pink Palace, which tells the story of her and her friends’ lives during the Aids crisis.
At the height of the epidemic, Jill supported those suffering from the virus, visiting Aids patients in hospitals around London, and participated in fundraising campaigns to raise money to fund awareness and research projects.
Jill said: “I am enormously proud to be a patron of The Sussex Beacon and thrilled to be joining everyone on The Sussex Beacon’s Pride bus.
“Having enjoyed a strong connection with Brighton for many years, as well as knowing and loving more than a handful of its wonderfully colourful residents, I can’t wait to celebrate Pride in Brighton.”
The community parade, along with other Pride festivities, is returning to the city for the first time since 2019 following a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Sussex Beacon, which marks its 30th anniversary this year, provides specialist care and support for people with HIV.
