ONE of the city’s gay nightclubs has been listed as one of the best in the UK.
Club Revenge in Old Steine in Kemp Town, Brighton, ranked tenth in a list of the best LGBTQ+ bars in the country in a study by The Bottle Club.
The nightclub, which opened in 1991, scored highly for its following on Instagram and its number of hashtags on the social media platform.
The report comes after Brighton was ranked as the best LGBTQ+ party destination in the UK, scoring highly for its safety, offering peace of mind for those wishing to express their identity in peace and harmony.
A spokesman for The Bottle Club described Club Revenge as “the ultimate party destination where you can go nuts on the dance floor and feel safe from start to finish”.
He said: “As well as providing the best LGBTQ+ events for Brighton’s community, Revenge is an active supporter of local and national charities and has raised thousands of pounds for worthy causes including Brighton and Hove Pride, the Terrence Higgins Trust, Stonewall, Brighton Women’s Centre, and Brighton University and the University of Sussex’s LGBTQ+ student societies.”
The study comes just days before Pride festivities return to the city after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with Christina Aguilera set to headline at Preston Park over the weekend.
The Bottle Club also listed four of the city’s other gay bars as among the best places in Brighton and Hove to enjoy the festivities.
Charles Street Tap in Marine Parade, Kemp Town, was praised for its “award-winning cabaret, craft beers and incredible gins”, with Legends Bar, also in Marine Parade, described as a “great place to sip a coffee, enjoy a drink, a bite to eat, or just kick back and enjoy the panoramic sea views from Brighton’s biggest terrace bar whatever the time of day”.
Affinity Bar in St James’s Street, was credited by the study for being a gay-owned business and for supporting the Brighton LGBTQ+ community as a whole, and The Queens Arms in Kemp Town was said to be the best place for cabaret.
“You won’t be hard-pushed to find a dazzling array of grandiose characters gracing the stage,” the spokesman said of The Queens Arms.
Brighton and Hove Pride returns to the city from Friday with a community parade and a village party in Kemp Town.
