Person taken to hospital after 'collision' off Brighton seafront

Coastguard crews, along with the RNLI and Brighton’s seafront team were called to the scene to assist the person in a boat.

The Argus understands that a collision between a boat and a jet ski took place.

A coastguard helicopter was seen circling along the seafront, with a person dropped down to help the casualty near Brighton Palace Pier.

The person was then taken to the marina by lifeboat and transferred to an ambulance to go to hospital.

Emergency services were seen taking the casualty on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

Eyewitnesses said that the casualty was a woman but authorities did not confirm this.

One person who was at Brighton Palace Pier at the time told The Argus: "As I came up to the pier, I could see the helicopter circling overhead - it kept doing loops back and forth around the pier.

"Then at the entrance, there were two coastguard vehicles but they seemed to drive off as I got there.

"Everyone on the pier was completely fine and I don't think anyone really noticed what was going on.

"The helicopter disappeared and I assume the lifeguards helped whoever was in the water."

Ambulance crews and police were spotted at Brighton Marina following the incident

A Brighton and Hove City Council spokesman said: “Our seafront team was alerted to a potentially serious incident this afternoon involving a person in a boat getting into difficulties.

“This team worked with the RNLI and HM Coastguard to rescue the person involved.

“The person was taken to hospital. We understand their injuries are not life-threatening.”
